The King Eider is the rarely seen cousin of the Common Eider. The male has even brighter plumage, with a bright yellow patch (shield) above his red bill. The female is very similar to the female Common Eider (allover brown), but with a paler head. The juvenile, show below, is a sort of cross between the female and male. On the next photo, you can just see a distant adult male (found at Redcar).
