Birds of Prey - The Barn Owl

The Barn Owl is probably the most commonly seen owl in the UK as it the "white" owl seen flying over roads at night. Its call is not the classic twit-twoo sound though, Barn Owls make a less pleasant shrieking and hissing sound. They are not just out at night, and can often be seen at dawn and dusk. If food is short and there are little mouths to feed then they can even be seen hunting in daytime. I spotted this one flying at dusk over the dunes. It flew/hunted/perched from the north end of Druridge Links to the south, either side of the main road, giving wonderful views...
