Flies - The Non-biting Midge

First seen on Tuesday 1st June 2021 at Druridge Pools

These midges are non-biting, often found near water. They are quite common in the UK. The male has a pair of prominent plumes. The first image is Chironomus plumosus which has clear wings. The second image shows Psectrotanypus varius which has distinctive dark marks on the wings.
