Waders - The Pectoral Sandpiper

First seen on Friday 1st October 2021 at Druridge Pools

Sandpipers are not very common at Druridge, and I've not even seen a 'Common' Sandpiper here, despite its name. The Pectoral Sandpiper is much less common, although some do pass through in the autumn each year, on their way to North America.

Sandpipers are difficult to identify at the best of times, and at Druridge they tend to stay on the centre of the pools, at some distance. The main identification point is the buff-colour streaked breast with a very distinct boarder to its all white belly. They have green/yellow legs - but in this case they are covered in mud!
