Bugs - The Red and-black Froghopper

First seen on Tuesday 1st June 2021 at Druridge Pools

Although these look like beetles, froghoppers are actually a separate species of jumping, plant sucking insects. Most froghoppers are normally brown, much less obvious than this brightly coloured one. Froghopper nymphs live in masses of froth, which are sometimes called cuckoo-spit. They live in grassland and meadows, and are usually found on long grass.
