Flies - The Tachina Fera

First seen on Monday 23rd August 2021 at Druridge Pools

I must say when I first saw this one I thought it was a Hoverfly, so had a hard time identifying it. I eventually found it under flies - it's a member of the Tachinid family. It has a wide black stripe down its orange abdomen, and is extremely bristly. It is normally found near water, feeding on waterside plants. Its larvae are parasites of other young insects.
