Thrushes and Chats - The Whinchat

First seen on Sunday 5th September 2021 at Druridge Pools

The Whinchat is sometimes mistaken for the much more common Stonechat. You are quite likely to see the resident stonechats at Druridge, but a Whinchat is a scarce passage visitor. The main difference between the two chats is the Whinchat's distinctive pale stripe over the eye, which is much more prominent in adults - this one is a 1st winter juvenile. It was on a fencepost - the best place to look for a Whinchat.
