Terns - The Black Tern

First seen on Friday 21st May 2021 at The Northumberland Coast

The Black Tern is an occasional visitor to the UK. It is usually on passage in the spring and autumn, but this one seems to stay a while at Long nanny in the summer. In the winter, they moult into blotchy white with black smudges, but in the summer the body head and bill are jet black, with dark grey wings.
