Butterflies - The Dingy Skipper

First seen on Thursday 15th May 2014 at Rodborough Common

The most common skippers are the Small Skipper and Large Skipper, both of which are bright orange so this dull coloured one is aptly named. The Dingy Skipper can hold its wings in the characteristic pyramid shape of the common skippers, but can also hold its wings out flat like most other butterflies. Male and female look much the same. They like sheltered warm sites, often on south-facing hills. They fly in May and June.
