Butterflies - The Duke of Burgundy

First seen on Thursday 15th May 2014 at Rodborough Common

The Duke of Burgundy is one of the 'Holy Grail' butterflies that people love to find. Their name sounds spectacular, and they are quite an attractive butterfly, especially the underwing pattern (which I have yet to photograph properly). However, don't expect a large butterfly, these are very small, and quite difficult to spot. They fly in may and June, and like sheltered hollows in the hillside.
