The Scarlet Tiger Moth is very easily recognised, with its bright scarlet hind-wings and black and white/yellow fore-wings. This moth flies by day in June and July and is quite large - about 5cm across (butterfly size). Even in flight, the scarlet wings can clearly be seen, but it can often be found at rest on vegetation, although if it closes its wings (as in the second photo) it's not so easy to spot. This one was found at Tyntesfield.
