Corvids - The Jackdaw

First seen on Saturday 4th February 2017 at Croome

Jackdaws are quite noisy birds and you will often hear their metallic 'jack-jack-jack' call as they fly from tree-top to tree-top and argue about who has the best perch. Sometime they will come down to the ground to feed, these were near the path north of the walled gardens. They were digging up acorns than the squirrels had buried - a typical corvid trick.

At first glance, corvids can look similar - Jackdaws are the smallest, and have the characteristic grey hood, and lovely pale blue eyes.
