Wasps - The Lissonata Setosa

First seen on Friday 10th June 2022 at Gibside

This Ichneumon Wasp is one of a vast number (tens of thousands) of species. They are parasitic and prey on caterpillars of butterflies and moths. They are also sometimes called Darwin Wasps. Obviously with so many varieties, identification is not easy, so my labels for these Ichneumon Wasps is just 'best guess'. I think this is Lissonata Setosa - characterised by a black body, orange legs, long antenna and a very long ovipositor.
