Gulls - The Glaucous Gull

First seen on Monday 14th February 2022 at the North-east Coast

The Glaucous Gull is a rare winter visitor, but can show up pretty much anywhere on the coast. It comes from Greenland and Arctic Canada. It is a large gull (almost as big as a Great Black-backed Gull). It is most distinctive as having no black feathers. It is similar to an Iceland Gull, but bigger, with a more aggressive look to it. This juvenile was found in the Fish Quay at North Shields.
