Waders of Croome

Common Sandpiper

Curlew

Lapwing

Oystercatcher

Snipe

Waders are a very large family of birds. They feed on the scrapes at the edges of rivers and lakes. Most tend to be summer visitors, but others (such as Snipe) have their numbers swelled in the winter.

Croome's ornamental lake is not ideal for waders so you probably won't see many waders here. They tend to be very nervous birds and are easily disturbed by passers by and dogs. Most, such as the curlew, lapwing and oystercatcher will just be fly-overs. but some such as the sandpiper and snipe will be on the ground. However, for obvious reasons, they will be in the much quieter parts of the estate.
