The Yellow-winged Bristleshin fly is similar to many other flies, but one of the distinguishing features is its wings, that have yellow bases. It is found in humid woods and the lush vegetation of meadows and wetlands. It flies from May to October and can be seen on flowers, especially Hogweed, Angelica, thistles, ragworts and scabiouses.
