Caterpillars - The Ruby Tiger Moth Caterpillar

First seen on Monday 20th October 2025 at Wallington

The Ruby Tiger Moth (like many moths) is much more interesting when it has its wings open. It has bright red underwings with black patches, plus a bright red body. They fly during the day as well as by night. They can be found in most habitats. The caterpillars feed on a variety of plants, including ragworts, heathers, dock and dandelion. Unlike many caterpillars, the colour of this pretty much exactly matches the colour of the adult moth.
