Although I've listed this bird as being by the lake and river, you will also see herons standing in, and flying over the meadows. The main lake is obviously the best place to see one though. There is a resident heron, which often stands at the edge of the large island in the centre. The one below was actually perched at the top of a large tree half way along the river. It may look odd seeing it in the branches, as we normally see them fishing at the side of water, but of course they roost and nest in trees.
