Waders - The Common Sandpiper

First seen on Monday 9th September 2024 at Holy Island

The Common Sandpiper is a wader, found on the edges of lakes and rivers, in shallow water. There are many different sandpipers, but the common sandpiper can usually be identified by its 'bobbing' movement as it works its way along the shoreline. It can also be identified by its white 'shoulder straps'. It is a very timid bird, easily disturbed. This one was on the Rocket Field, next to the path to the castle.
