Corvids - The Crow

First seen on Monday 18th November 2019 at Holy Island

This Crow's full name is 'Carrion' Crow. You are much less likely to see the other British crow - the Hooded Crow although it is still possible to see one here. Crows can be found all over the island, either flying around, feeding on the grass, or more often than not, perched in a tree or on a post making their characteristic crowing noise.

At first glance, corvids can look similar - crows are bigger than jackdaws, and are all over black including the eyes (jackdaws have pale blue eyes). The crow's beak is quite broad, bigger than a jackdaw's, but smaller than the huge one the raven has. A rook can be identified by its pale, long, very sharp looking beak.
