Warblers, Crests and Flycatchers - The Firecrest

First seen on Friday 21st October 2022 at Holy Island

This tiny bird is very rare in the north, and difficult to see in the south. On Lindisfarne, they can sometimes be seen after landing on the Island from the continent. This one was in the harbour trees. It is similar to the much more common Goldcrest. The Firecrest has stripes around its eyes, rather than the pale circles around the Goldcrest's eyes. They often favour the Yew, Holy and Ivy trees. Firecrests tend to be a bit brighter than Goldcrests, with yellow shoulders and the males have more of an orange crest (showing better in the second photo).
