Waders - The Turnstone

First seen on Tuesday 21st January 2020 at Holy Island

Turnstones are small waders that you may see anywhere along the path to the castle beside the bay. They get their name from the way they hunt for food. They rummage around the shore on a receding tide moving seaweed and pebbles looking for food underneath. It's fascinating to watch a group of them moving along the shore, and you can hear the sound of the all pebbles sliding down the slope as they are tossed aside.

In this video (three still shots) you can see the size of stone the Turnstone can move.
