Flies - The Alder Fly

First seen on Tuesday 1st June 2021 at Druridge Pools

Although called a fly, this is another member of the lacewing family (the brown lacewings). They emerge in April and are found near water. Very visible when flying, they are like small moths, and will sometimes even land on you! Despite its name, it has no association with Alder trees, other than being found on foliage beside water, which is where Alder is usually found.
