Warblers, Crests and Flycatchers - The Blackcap

First seen on Saturday 5th September 2020 at Druridge Pools

The Blackcap is a bird that can in theory be seen all year round but you are much less likely to see one in the winter. The majority of blackcaps migrate to us in the spring and they perch in the trees and sing their heart out. If you spot one, they are unmistakable, as they live up to their name and have a very black cap on their heads. However, the female has a hazel coloured cap.


 

The two below are both juveniles. These were all found in the hedgerow at Druridge Bay - viewable from the car.
