Brent Geese spend the winter in Northumberland in very large numbers (thousands) although they are rare sight at Druridge. They are easily identified by having a black head and neck with a small white collar. There are three separate races of Brent Geese - pale-bellied, dark-bellied and black. Pail-bellied are the more common, but this one seems to be a dark-bellied one.
Brent Geese are considerably smaller then most other geese, they are not much bigger than Mallards. You can see the size comparison with Greylags and Canada in the last two photos.
