Once common, the Brown Hare is sadly not an easy animal to see these days, and it's a real treat if you see one. Compared to a rabbit, they are bigger, more upright and generally sit with their long, black tipped ears upright - that's sometimes the only bit of a hare you see, sticking up above the grass. Hares have with much longer lags than the rabbit, as you can see in the photo below. These photos were taken of two running around the Budge Fields at Druridge, but I have also seen them on the sand dunes.
