Waders - The Common Sandpiper

First seen on Monday 22nd August 2022 at Druridge Pools

The common sandpiper is a wader, found on the edges of lakes and rivers, in shallow water. It is not a bird you would normally expect to see at Druridge, but they can appear when the water levels are low. There are many different sandpipers, but the common sandpiper can usually be identified by its 'bobbing' movement as it works its way along the shoreline. It can also be identified by its white 'shoulder straps'. It is a very timid bird, easily disturbed.
