Corvids - The Crow

First seen on Sunday 2nd August 2020 at Druridge Pools

This Crow's full name is 'Carrion' Crow. Although you are much less likely to see the other British crow - the Hooded Crow, the Northumberland Coast is actually a good place to see them. Crows can be found feeding on the dunes and in farmland. More often than not, perched in a tall tree making their characteristic crowing noise.

At first glance, corvids can look similar. Crows are bigger than jackdaws, and are all over black including the eyes (jackdaws have pale blue eyes). The crow's beak is quite broad, bigger than a jackdaw's, but smaller than the huge one the raven has. A rook can be identified by its pale, long, very sharp looking beak. Crows also tend to walk rather than hop.
