The Dark Green Fritillary is a large, brightly coloured butterfly, making it easy to spot. These were found on the dunes at Druridge Links, a great spot for butterflies, and especially for this species. Male and female are very similar - the female is a paler orange, especially towards the edges. The first photo is definitely a male, and the second a female (I think). They tend to feed on the nectar of purple flowers such as thistles. They can be found in June to August.
