Mammals - The Dolphin

First seen on Friday 30th October 2020 at Druridge Pools

The north-east coast has a good population of Dolphins patrolling north and south, and they are regularly seen by somebody, somewhere, on most days. These are probably Bottlenose Dolphins, the most common species on this part of the coast. Unfortunately, the National Trust reserve is fairly central in the bay, which means as the Dolphin travel between the promontories at Hauxley and Newbiggin, they will be quite a long way away passing Druridge.

The best time to look is when the sea is relatively calm, and then you need to look for white splashes where the Dolphins are breaching. If you are really lucky, they may be performing acrobatics as well - they can jump incredibly far in the air!
