This Robber Fly looks quite threatening, and it is. It has a short strong proboscis which they use to stab their prey and then they inject their victim with a neurotoxin that paralyses them, ready to suck the like out of them. There are around 29 species of Robber Fly (Asilidae). This one has black legs, elongated grey body, and more obviously, was found resting on the sand dunes.
