Hover-flies - Eristalis Pertinax

First seen on Wednesday 5th August 2020 at Druridge Pools

This little hoverfly, is possibly Eristalis Pertinax - there are thousands of different species, so you can never be quite sure. It's also known at the Tapered Drone Fly. It has a pair of orange markings on the abdomen and it's a honey bee mimic. It is very similar to the Common Drone Fly but this one has pale front legs. Although it can be found in the spring, it is normally seen in Summer an Autumn.
