Warblers, Crests and Flycatchers - The Firecrest

First seen on Saturday 3rd December 2022 at Druridge Pools

This tiny bird is very rare in the north, and even difficult to see in the south. This one was in the trees between the dunes and the pools. It is similar to the much more common Goldcrest. The Firecrest has stripes around its eyes, rather than the pale circles around the Goldcrest's eyes. They often favour the Yew, Holy and Ivy trees. Firecrests tend to be a bit brighter than Goldcrests, with yellow shoulders and the males have more of an orange crest.
