Guillemots breed on the coast in Northumberland, and are easy to see from rocky shores in the summer. Unfortunately, as Druridge Bay lacks any rocks, they tend to stay out at sea. This one was spotted feeding a little way offshore. It is in winter plumage, with much more white on its head, and the characteristic dark line down its cheek, as if it's wearing sunglasses.

When you see them fly past they fly quite low and fast with quite a rapid wingbeat, often in small flocks.
