Birds of Prey - The Kestrel

First seen on Thursday 22nd October 2020 at Druridge Pools

Whenever you walk around the Druridge Links, there is a good chance you will see a Kestrel. They will normally be hovering in search of food, often some distance from the road, in the middle of the fields. If you are lucky, one may be hovering close by. If you are even luckier, you may find one perched in a tree, or on a post feeding or preening. There are a lot of other birds at Druridge, and Kestrels are often mobbed or driven away by the other birds. Females are an all-over brown in colour. Males have a grey head, and more vivid chestnut coloured wings with a dark tip.
