Lapwings are usually found grazing in wet grassy fields, this one was on the dunes at Druridge, right next to my car (photo taken from inside the car, which makes a good hide). When you see them nearby, you can see their iridescent green wings. In flight, Lapwings have a characteristic black and white pattern, with wings that widen out with rounded edges. Their call is a distinct "pee-wit" giving them their alternate name.
