Butterflies - The Large White

First seen on Sunday 2nd August 2020 at Druridge Pools

The Large White butterfly is very similar to the small white. Although it is larger, unless you see the two together, the difference isn't always obvious. Both are found on larger flowers, hedgerows, thistles etc. The Large White does however have much bolder makings than the small white. The black on the wingtips covers a larger area than the Small White, and it is much more cleanly defined. The male Large White has a black spot on the under-wing, but not on the top of the wing. Females have several large spots on the wings.
