Warblers, Crests and Flycatchers - The Lesser Whitethroat

First seen on Sunday 25th October 2020 at Druridge Pools

From a distance it is not always easy to differentiate between a Whitethroat and the much less common Lesser Whitethroat. Their song is however very different, so it's much easier in the spring when they are singing. The main differences are that the Lesser Whitethroat as well as being slightly smaller, has a very grey head, plain coloured wings, and grey legs. They are elusive little birds, moving up and down the hedgerow feeding. They can be spotted flying from tree to tree, but once they land they disappear into the foliage and skulk.
