Ducks, Grebes and Coots - The Long-tailed Duck

First seen on Tuesday 26th October 2021 at Druridge Pools

The Long-tailed Duck is a spectacular duck, with harlequin style plumage - patches of white black and brown. the male is the one with the very long tail giving it its name (you can just see it in the water in the first image). It's rare to find one in breeding plumage at Druridge, but these are nearly there. The second image is female. They are sea ducks, but can sometimes be found on lakes (these were on the North Pool).
