Mammals - The Mole

First seen on Wednesday 23rd June 2021 at Druridge Pools

You can probably go your entire life never having seen a mole (I had up to this point). They spend almost their entire life underground. They are around 15cm long and covered in black velvety fur. I noticed this one on one of the paths through the trees along the road through Druridge. It was scuttling around in the dark undergrowth, borrowing down here and there, presumably foraging for food, or may be looking for some fresh softer ground (the ground was quite hard and dry).
