Bees - The Nomad Bee

First seen on Saturday 15th May 2021 at Druridge Pools

The Nomad Bee is a family of bees, many of which have wasp-like markings. There are hundreds of species in this family, but only 34 are known in the UK. They are about 1cm long and usually fly in spring or early summer (April-June) visiting the spring-flowering blossoms. As the name suggests, they are wandering bees, but they are cuckoo bees, as they lay their eggs in the nest of other bees, such as mining bees.
