This fly actually has a much more pleasant name than most flies. Called the Noon Fly simply because is can be seen basking in the sun at noon. When I photographed this one it was actually 11:45am. Easy to identify, as it is jet black, with a vivid orange/gold face, feet and patched the base of its wings.
