Pigeons and Pheasants - The Red-legged Partridge

First seen on Tuesday 20th October 2020 at Druridge Pools

There are two species of Partridge in the UK, the Grey Partridge, which is our native species and the Red-legged Partridge, which was introduced for hunting. This one was strutting around on the Budge Fields. Red-legged Partridges can be identified by their distinctive plumage, with striking black, brown and white strips on their wings and neck. As well as red legs they have a bright red beak and eyes.
