Waders - The Ringed Plover

First seen on Thursday 20th August 2020 at Druridge Pools

The Ringed Plover is one of two similar members of the plover family. This one has an orange and black beak, whereas the Little Ringed Plover has a black beak and very distinct yellow rings around its eyes (although the Ringed Plover does have a very thin yellow eye ring). The Little Ringed Plover is quite rare in Northumberland, so you are most likely to see this Ringed Plover. They can often be seen feeding on the beach, on scrapes and on farmland.
