The Roseate Tern is one of the less common terns that breed on the Northumberland coast. From a distance, identification is not all that easy, and they can resemble a Common Tern. They have black bills, and red legs. However, later in the season the black bills can have red at the base, as with this one. It was with a mixed flock of terns fishing on the shoreline. They get their name from their pink flushed body in summer plumage.
