Flies - The Seaweed Fly

First seen on Monday 20th May 2024 at Druridge Pools

The Seaweed Fly is also know as a Kelp Fly, and they feed on rotting seaweed. When you walk along a sandy beach you can often see them flying (looking like they are hopping) a few feet ahead of you as you approach. They are food for coastal birds such as the Sanderling.
