Finches and Buntings - The Siskin

First seen on Tuesday 20th October 2020 at Druridge Pools

Siskins can occasionally found on some back-garden feeders, but are normally seen feeding in Birch and more especially Alder trees (as in these photos). Siskins feed in a very distinctive way - they feed on the seeds from cone-like fruits and hang from the branches in an acrobatic way, often upside down, and quite close to each other.

They have distinctive yellow plumage with black and white spotty stripes. Males are much brighter yellow that the females, and have a black head patch.
