Waders - The Snipe

The Snipe is a small wader, about the size of a blackbird. They are very difficult to see, as they spend much of their time in vegetation and reeds, and are very well camouflaged. Strictly speaking, this one should be called a "Common" Snipe as there is another Snipe found in the UK called a Jack Snipe. Jack Snipes are similar but are smaller and have a shorter broader bill. They also lack the central stripe on the head that the Common Snipe has (see second photo below).
