The Spoonbill is a spectacular wading bird, easily identified by its long bill, ending in a spoon shape. It is an occasional visitor to Druridge. It feeds by standing in the shallows and sweeping its bill from side to side through the water. Adults have a black bill with yellow spoon. They also have a long wispy crest on the back of their heads.


The one below is a juvenile. It is very plain white all over, no crest and pinkish bill.
