Warblers, Crests and Flycatchers - The Spotted Flycatcher

First seen on Saturday 5th September 2020 at Druridge Pools

These birds are summer visitors. As their name suggests, they catch flies. They are not brightly coloured birds so at first glance not easy to identify, but they do have a characteristic streaking on their crown. However, their feeding habits are quite distinctive - they perch in a branch, fly out to catch an insect, then fly back to the same branch, repeating this many times - great fun to watch. This one was in the hedgerow at Druridge Bay.
